If you are, we have grants that pay for things like new solid wall internal insulation, loft installation, room in roof insulation and other measures designed primarily to increase energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty.
If you are heating your home with Electricity or LPG, you will achieve the greatest financial savings by insulating the building properly. This is not cavity wall where they fill gaps that are meant to breathe…
Imagine a bucket with holes in! Would you pour water into the bucket, or would you plug the holes first? If you didn’t the water would be wasted and spill everywhere. That’s what the free insulation will do to your home. It will keep the heat in the house, rather than letting it escape! Running storage heaters is expensive at the best of times, so why pay more than you have too…
The UK Government has announced the aim for the country to be carbon neutral by the year 2050. In 2019 legislation was passed into law that committed the Government to a legally binding target of net zero emissions by that year, the legislation seeks to build on the carbon emission reductions already achieved by the UK and create green jobs in the process.
The energy company obligation (ECO4) scheme is one of the mechanisms the Government has established to help achieve the goal of being carbon neutral. One of the things that the ECO4 scheme does is provide grants to fund energy efficiency upgrades to homes that reduce emissions, electricity and energy bills.
The ECO4 scheme requires medium to large energy suppliers in the UK to meet an obligation called the Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO). According to OFGEM, this obligation requires the suppliers to promote the installation of measures that lead to financial savings on energy bills such as the ones mentioned previously (ie. insulation and heating systems).
Your eligibility for a grant under the Energy Company Obligation or ECO4 scheme is determined by whether you receive one of below-mentioned benefits and that your household meets the income criteria. The list of benefits includes:
• Armed Forces Independence Payment
• Attendance Allowance
• Carer’s Allowance
• Child Benefit*
• Constant Attendance Allowance
• Disability Living Allowance
• Pension Guarantee Credit
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
• Income Support
• Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
• Mobility Supplement
• Personal Independence Payment
• Severe Disablement Allowance
• Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
• Universal Credit
You do not need to be the homeowner to benefit from the ECO scheme, however if you are a tenant, you will need permission from your landlord or social housing provider or property management company. You do not need to apply for a grant with any energy company, since they are all obligated to achieve certain reduction targets by the Government.
We as the ECO4 installer will obtain funding for your measures from any of the medium to large energy companies.
In our experience, properties that tend to have old and outdated heating systems and a lack of insulation, especially properties with cavity walls or older properties are the most successful in obtaining fully funded measures.
The more inefficient the heating of the home is, the more likely measures are to be fully funded. This is particularly true if your home using storage heaters or LPG boilers.
You will know if your home is not efficient by your energy bill and heating costs.
The only sure way is to get in touch with us using the contact form above and have a free survey conducted where our professional surveyors can obtain all the relevant details from you and assist you in obtaining the maximum level of funding for the measures your home is eligible for. Remember, the more efficient your home is, the greater reduction in carbon emissions. And we are passionate about achieving carbon emission reductions! We work with CarbonReducers.org who plant trees on our behalf to help save the planet, one tree at a time!!!
Consumer protection magazine Which? found that installing loft insulation can reduce your energy bills by up to £215 per year. All heat rises, and in most houses more than 25% of the heat inside the home escapes through the roof, which makes loft insulation and room in roof insulation vital to improving your home’s energy efficiency.
Part of our survey involves the inspection of existing loft insulation, in many cases (particularly if the thickness is less than 100mm) this loft insulation can be increased in order to improve the energy efficiency. Loft insulation is effective for an extremely long period of time, with some loft insulation remaining effective for at least 40 years.
The recommended thickness for loft insulation in the United Kingdom is 270mm, however we find that in a lot of properties that we survey have loft insulation that is either 100mm or less. Topping up the loft insulation to 270mm allows you to benefit from reducing your heating costs and effectively increasing the energy efficiency of your home.
One of the primary reasons that people avoid installing loft insulation is because the lofts are used for storage and laying installation over the top of the wooden joists that makeup the loft sometimes makes it difficult to lay boards on it thereby making the space unusable. Times have changed however and new techniques such as the use of rigid insulation boards and prebonded flooring can allow you to maximise the insulation of your loft whilst retaining the utility of the space.
